Establishing E-mail Address

Using Softerra Adaxes, you can make an Active Directory user, contact, or group a mail-enaibled recipient. After an e-mail is established for an object, this object is included in the Exchange address lists.

To establish e-mail addresses you need to have the 'Write Exchange Attributes' permission. This permission is granted by the built-in 'Exchange Recipient Manager' Security Role.

To establish an external e-mail address for an Active Directory user or contact:

  1. Log in to the Adaxes Web Interface.

  2. Click the Browsing tab in the top navigational menu.

  3. Click the domain that contains users or contacts, for which you want to establish an e-mail address, and then select their location.

    -or-

Click Browse above the list of managed domains and select the container in which the users or contacts you need are located.

  4. In the list of AD objects, check the objects you need, click Exchange Tasks in the On Selection menu and select the Establish E-mail Address command.

If the Exchange Tasks submenu is not available, it means that Microsoft Exchange is not installed in the AD domain, where the selected objects are located.
The Establish E-mail Address command is not available, when the object already has a mailbox or external e-mail address.
  5. At the Establish E-mail Address page that opens, specify an alias for selected users or contacts.

If you establish e-mail addresses for several users or contacts, use value references to specify a unique alias for each object.

A value reference is a pattern of text that contains the name of the property it refers to. These patterns are replaced with the property values of each object. So, each object will get an alias composed from its own property values. For example, you can enter the following pattern: %firstname%%lastname%. This pattern will be replaced with the values of First Name and Last Name properties of each user or contact. If the resulting value contains invalid characters, these characters will be removed.
The default alias value is determined by Property Patterns. To set another default value for Exchange aliases, you need to configure the corresponding Property Pattern.
  6. In the External E-mail Address field, specify the external e-mail address for the user or contact. If necessary, modify the e-mail type.

If you establish e-mail addresses for several users or contacts, this field is read-only and contains the default value - %mail%. This value will be replaced with the value of the E-mail property of each user or contact. So, each user or contact will get its own e-mail established as an external e-mail address in Exchange. If an e-mail is not specified for a user or contact, an external e-mail address will not be estalished for this object.

  7. Select the associated Exchange administrative group. Click Save.

  8. The results of the e-mail address establishing will be displayed. Click OK.
