Deleting Exchange Mailboxes

Using Softerra Adaxes, you can delete Exchange mailboxes for Active Directory users.

To delete Exchange mailboxes you need to have the 'Write Exchange Attributes' permission. This permission is granted by the built-in 'Exchange Recipient Manager' Security Role.

To delete Exchange mailboxes:

  1. Log in to the Adaxes Web Interface.

  2. Click the Browsing tab in the top navigational menu.

  3. Click the domain that contains users, for which you want to delete mailboxes, and then select their location.

    -or-

Click Browse above the list of managed domains and select the container in which the users you need are located.

  4. In the list of AD objects, check the users you need, click Exchange Tasks in the On Selection menu and select the Delete Mailbox command.

If the Exchange Tasks submenu is not available, it means that Microsoft Exchange is not installed in the AD domain, where the selected users are located.
This command is available for users who have mailboxes. For multiple selections this command is always available, however, the operation will fail for users without mailboxes.
  5. Click OK.

When you delete a mailbox using Softerra Adaxes, the mailbox is not immediately marked for deletion. It will be marked for future deletion during automatic database maintenance performed by Exchange. To speed up this procedure, you need to run the Mailbox Cleanup Agent (Exchange 2003) or execute the Clean-MailboxDatabase Powershell cmdlet (Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010). Mailboxes will be deleted in 30 days after they were marked for deletion. During this period you can reconnect the mailbox, if necessary.
